Kerosene refers to a fuel consisting of a mixture of petroleum hydrocarbons of the naphtha-kerosene fraction. To give it certain properties, a complex of additives is introduced into the composition. Grade TS 1 is produced by direct distillation of sulfurous oil. To bring the composition to the mercaptan sulfur standard, kerosene undergoes demercaptanization or hydrotreating.
Kerosene is an oily, transparent liquid with a slight yellowish tint and a specific odor, characteristic of naphtha hydrocarbons. It is insoluble in water and forms an emulsion when mixed. It is a good solvent for fats, varnishes and paints. It has a boiling point in the range of 110 - 230ºС.
