Advanced gas purification technologies

In order to reduce the operating costs of the gas complex, Pavlodar Oil LLP, from 2017 to 2018, initiated pilot industrial tests (hereinafter referred to as PIT) to introduce improved technology for the purification of associated petroleum gas at the Alibekmola Center for Associated Petroleum Gas.

The main objectives of these measures are to reduce by 90% the consumption of concentrated caustic soda (alkali) solution at the Alkaline Treatment Plant and the volume of waste alkaline solution for disposal. The implementation of the OPI consisted of the introduction of BASF gas purification technology using a combined OASE purple solution as the main solution for gas purification from H2S, RSH, CO2 at the Amine Purification Plant.

According to the methodology “Organization of selection, testing, implementation and incoming control of chemical reagents in the subsidiaries and affiliates of JSC NC KazMunayGas”, the pilot testing was agreed upon by the Research Institute of Technical and Technical Development KazMunayGas LLP.

Currently, an improved technology for the purification of associated petroleum gas using a combined solution OASE purple from BASF for the purification of associated petroleum gas TsPIPG Alibekmola is successfully used in production - all declared parameters are maintained. The positive results of the pilot project were confirmed by NII TDB KMG LLP and Caspian Investments Resources Ltd.

The industrial implementation of improved technology and OPI chemicals made it possible to significantly reduce costs with the existing treatment scheme - the volume of waste alkaline solution for disposal, the cost of purchasing an alkali solution and a catalyst were reduced by up to 90%. At the same time, the quality and volumes of production of commercial products (commercial main gas, technical propane-butane mixture, stable gas condensate, technical sulfur) comply with the requirements of regulatory documents and production volumes.

Pavlodar Oil LLP (The Company's participants on a parity basis are the national company KazMunayGas and Caspian Investments Resources Ltd. (Sinopec) has been developing the Alibekmola and Kozhasai oil and gas condensate fields in the Aktobe region since 1999.

In October 2013, within the framework of the approved State Program for the utilization of associated petroleum gas, Pavlodar Oil LLP put into commercial operation a gas processing complex.

This complex includes two facilities: “Integrated Gas Treatment Unit with a capacity of 50 thousand cubic meters per hour at the Alibekmola field” and “Gas Treatment Unit with a capacity of 29 thousand cubic meters per hour at the Kozhasai field.”

The Integrated Gas Treatment Unit-50 of the Alibekmola field with a capacity of 420 million cubic meters per year is designed for complex processing of associated petroleum gas from the Oil Treatment Units of the Kozhasai and Alibekmola fields.
